How to Spot Quality Web Directory

With thousands of web directories today, spotting a good quality web directory would be a challenging job.  However, good quality web directories do share several things in common.  Here is what you should look for in a web directory before you waste your time submitting your site info:

Google PageRank:
Unfortunately, no matter how hateful you are to Google PageRank, it still constitutes good web directories.  Google PageRank is 10-point-based rating system determined by Google's complex algorithm to rank websites in importance - 0 for being the least important to 10 for being the most important (Google has a PR 10 - surprise, surprise!)  A website is said to be important if it is popular - mainly regulated by the number and quality of related sites link to it.  Highly related and quality sites linking to your site is what you should want.

The right listing in the right category: You do not want a cell phone site listed in your food and beverage category, do you?  Having such listing in a web directory could hurt your sites and the web directories search engines placements.

Quality of listings:  Before submitting, have a look into the sites listed in the web directory - Are they good quality sites? Are there any broken links? Are those sites spammy?  Having your sites associated with such listing can only damage your search engine ranking.

Front-end design: We have to admit it - Ugly design won't sell.  Also, web directories full of ads - pop ups, pop unders, etc. won't constitute a quality web directory.

Regular New link submissions and approvals:  Make sure the web directories you submit your sites to have new link submissions on daily basis.  Also, make sure the web directories approve them!  With thousands of links waiting for approval on a certain web directory, you sites could end up just like those unapproved links.
